Engagement Strategy: (Stand, Share and Sit):

Sometimes students sit idle for long periods of time.  Consider this strategy when you may be doing a lecture.  Not only does this get the blood flowing but also this strategy gets students listening to other’s viewpoints.

  • Teacher writes question

  • Table group stands and after they share they sit down.

  • Although this is not part of the strategy an idea that increases metacognition (ES .69) is after listening to each partners, have them agree on 1 response either by selecting a partner’s idea or taking bits and pieces of each answer and creating a “group answer.”  You can even ask them to share the answer that they liked the best.
