Mrs. Meyer
Congratulations to Mrs. Meyer who is the Falcon of the Month for June 2016. Her class has grown an average in math more than 1 year and 4 months, and we still have a month left of school. As a second grade teacher, she has guided her students’ math abilities well into the third grade. We are proud of her efforts at Freeman Elementary School.
Mrs. Meyer has worked at Freeman for 20 years. She is really positive, and helps create a positive environment for her class. “I want the kids to believe in themselves and know that they can do it if they set their minds to it.”
Mrs. Meyer was born and raised in Woodland where she attended schools. She went to Maxwell Elementary, Lee middle School, Woodland High School, American River Junior College, and then California State University, Sacramento. “I always knew that I wanted to work with kids,” commented Mrs. Meyer. She had great teachers who she learned a lot from. Her favorite teacher was Mrs. Joyce who was her 6th grade teacher at Maxwell.
When Mrs. Meyer isn’t teaching she loves spending time with her family, and she especially loves traveling. Her family consist of Daymon, who is her husband, her oldest daughter Larisa and Julia who attends Pioneer High School. Mrs. Meyer is an avid basketball fan and attends many Kings Games, she loves cooking and reading. She enjoys traveling to places such as Europe where she visited countries like Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, and here in America she has traveled to New York, and then camping at Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, and South Dakota. Her father’s Family settled in South Dakota after leaving Russia. Traveling so much has made her realize all of the privileges that we have here in America such as a democracy.
When asked about what she loves the most at Freeman she remarked, “I love the children, staff, the principal and families. Now I am teaching my former students’ children. This makes it feel like a Freeman family.” Mrs. Meyer truly believes that all children can learn. “They have to set goals for themselves and they can achieve it.” Mrs. Meyer recalls a student from twenty years ago who was having trouble learning. She worked with him on Sundays. “I hope I made a positive impact in his life,” as she wanted to help him. This is the kind of teacher Mrs. Meyers is. She even worked 10 Saturdays this year to help students with their reading and math.

La Sra. Meyer ha trabajado en Freeman por 20 años. Ella es muy positiva, y ayuda a crear un ambiente positivo para su clase. "Quiero que los niños crean en sí mismos y sepan que pueden hacerlo si."
La Sra. Meyer nació y creció en Woodland, donde asistió a las escuelas. Ella fue a la Primaria de Maxwell, la Escuela Intermedia de Lee, la Escuela secundaria de Woodland, American River Junior College, y luego la Universidad del Estado de California, en Sacramento. "Siempre supe que quería trabajar con los niños", comentó la Sra. Meyer. Tenía maestros que aprendió mucho en estas escuelas. Su maestra favorita era la Sra. Joyce, que fue su maestra de 6to grado en la Escuela Primaria de Maxwell.
Cuando la Sra. Meyer no está enseñando le gusta pasar tiempo con su familia, y le encanta viajar. Su familia consiste de su esposo Daymon, su hija mayor Larisa y Julia que asiste a la Escuela Secundaria de Pioneer. La Sra. Meyer le encanta el baloncesto y asiste a muchos juegos de los Kings, y tambien le encanta cocinar y lectura. Le gusta viajar a lugares como Europa, donde visitó países como Alemania, la República Checa, Eslovaquia, Austria, Hungría, y aquí en Estados Unidos ha viajado a Nueva York, y luego acampar en Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, y Dakota del Sur. La familia de su padre se estableció en Dakota del Sur, después de salir de Rusia. Tiniendo la oportunidad de viajar ha hecho darse cuenta de todos los privilegios que tenemos aquí en Estados Unidos como una democracia.
Cuando se le preguntó acerca de lo que más ama de la Escuela Primaria de Freeman, remarcó, "Amo a los niños, el personal, el director y familias. Ahora estoy enseñando los hijos de mis ex alumnos. Esto me hace sentir como una familia en Freeman.” La Sra. Meyer realmente cree que todos los niños pueden aprender. "Ellos tienen que establecer metas para sí mismos y pueden lograrlo." La Sra. Meyer recuerda a un estudiante de hace veinte años que estaba teniendo problemas de aprendizaje. Ella trabajó con él los domingos. "Espero haber dejado un impacto positivo en su vida", como ella quería ayudarlo. Este es el tipo de maestro que es la Sra. Meyer. Incluso trabajó 10 sábados este año para ayudar a los estudiantes con la lectura y matemáticas.
