It is with great pride that I welcome you to Freeman Elementary School for the 2018-2019 school year. This past year we accomplished a great deal and these accomplishments would not have been possible without your support. We had a wonderful parent boosters and ELAC, our suspension rate significantly declined, we provided more interventions than ever before including hiring tutors for students who needed more help, we competed in Nature Bowl, and increased our focus with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). All of our local examinations indicate an increase in achievement in BOTH math and English Language Arts.
Although we had many successes one area of concern is the decline in our attendance rate. Last year we tried various methods such as an extra recess, jump for dollars during assemblies, and class acknowledgments for perfect attendance. Even though we desperately tried to motivate students, our attendance rate declined by half a percent. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Please make sure that your child is on time and ready to learn each and every day. Yes our district office does receive state and federal dollars from your child’s attendance which in turn we spend on your child in many forms but MORE IMPORTANTLY we care about your child learning. Simply put, if children aren’t at school then they can’t learn. We are all in the business of having students learn at high levels so this year I am reaching out to parents to please help us.
This year marks my 15th year in education and 6th year at Freeman Elementary School. As a former tutor, teacher, vice principal, and now principal , I will use my knowledge and experience of teaching and learning to continue to develop systems for student learning. I am excited to continue to work with you as your partner in education to ensure your child’s success. I along with staff, will work hard to continue the legacy of inspiring students to a high-achieving future.
Lastly if at any point during the school year you have concerns regarding your child’s education please fill out the “Parent Request for Assistance Form” located in our office. These forms may be submitted to Mrs. Neilson so that we can help provide supports and interventions to assist your child.
