MESSAGE FROM DR. GONZALEZ (PRINCIPAL)

August 1, 2022

Dear Freeman Learning Community,

It is with great pride that I welcome you to Freeman Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year. This past year we accomplished a great deal and these accomplishments would not have been possible without your support. We had a wonderful parent boosters and ELAC, our suspension rate was low for the second straight year, we provided more interventions than ever before during the school day and held 14 Saturday tutoring sessions, increased art participation through the Yolo Arts Council, and participated with the Let’s Get Moovin’ Sports program. Our learning soared!

This year we need your help with increasing positive behaviors. Speak to your children often and teach them how to problem-solve. This is a skill that they need to have as they learn in a classroom setting or outside on the playground. This year’s motto is, “Be the I in Kind.”
Please know that safety is a top priority at our school site. We have a safety plan in place, and we constantly review it. Each morning we allow students to enter through the school gates, and ask adults to come to the office should you have a question. This helps ensure that only Freeman employees are on campus and increases student safety. If you would like to volunteer please call Lizvet at (530)  628-7722‬.

This year marks my 19th year in education and my 10th year at Freeman Elementary School. I genuinely love the community of Woodland, and the children that I am fortunate to work with. This is why I have the best job in the world and I am committed to our children! As a former tutor, teacher, vice principal, and now principal, I will use my knowledge and experience of teaching and learning  to continue to develop systems for student learning. I am excited to continue to work with you as your partner in education to ensure your child’s success. I, along with staff, will work hard to continue the legacy of  “inspiring students to a high-achieving future.”

Lastly if at any point during the school year you have concerns regarding your child’s education please fill out the “Parent Request for Assistance Form” located in our office. It will also be sent to you weekly in the parent hub. Together let’s make this year the best one possible!
