MESSAGE FROM DR. GONZALEZ (PRINCIPAL)

August 1, 2024

Dear Freeman Learning Community,

It is with great pride that I welcome you to Freeman Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year. This past year we accomplished a great deal and these accomplishments would not have been possible without your support. I am excited to begin my twelfth year as the Freeman principal and feel both honored and humbled to be your principal.
I would like to take a moment to tell you about myself.  I grew up in a small town called Galt on a Dairy farm.  My father was a farm laborer who worked more than 100 hours per week.  He modeled for me hard work, perseverance, and a never- give-up attitude.  Working on a dairy farm was hard work!  Soon after graduating from Galt High School in 1996 I attended Chico State.  It was there while volunteering at an after-school program that I found my calling or my life’s purpose.  I knew that I was born to be an educator.  I spent 12 years in college trying to learn as much as I could about education, earning my bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees as well as both teaching and administrative services credentials. My formal preparation really prepared me for the work that I do at Freeman Elementary School.
When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, bike riding, watching football, reading, and staying current with best practices in education.  I also enjoy traveling.  I would like to visit Vietnam, Thailand or Japan one day and experience those cultures.
I would like to take a moment to state my vision for this upcoming school year.  Here are my top three priority areas for 2024-2025.
  • Foster a learning environment that is inclusive of ALL students.  I want all students to feel safe, and supported while at school.  I want all students to know that we care and they matter.
  • Facilitate an environment where we (students and adults) are committed to learning.  We should always strive to be the very best that we can be.
  • Continue to strengthen our school-wide systems of support with a focus on social emotional and academic supports.
By working together with our families we will be sure to meet our vision and goals this year.

With Gratitude,

Dr. Gonzalez
